COVID-19 Statement

As of October 2021.

“ The Board of Generations in Jazz is committed to delivering a COVID safe event for participants and the community under the guidelines and requirements as specified by SA Health at the time of the event in May 2022 ”

Dear Students, Principals, Music Directors, and student’s families,

For nearly 30 years Generations in Jazz has been a partner in the journey with schools developing their jazz and big band music programs.

Generations in Jazz – THE EVENT – has been to music students what the AFL Grand Final is to footy fans.

The last 18 months has presented a challenging and distressing time for Music Directors and the many, many students who have experienced a very disruptive school year – many who have not been in the classroom for months at a time.

This has impacted heavily on music programs in schools, rehearsals have been very limited, if at all, and engagement with students to participate has been difficult.

So it is imperative for Generations in Jazz 2022 to play its role in partnering with schools once again to support the challenge of creating an event which offers an “end goal “.

It’s easy to forget the – Why do we have this event?

To remind you – It is to create a unique experience for students, schools, educators, musicians, and our community, to celebrate and inspire a love of jazz music across generations.

The Board of Generations in Jazz is committed to offering you the certainty that in 2022 there will be an event – ideally as we know it – or with adaptable options that will cater for any COVID contingencies that might occur.

The Board of Generations in Jazz is committed to delivering a COVID safe event for participants and the community under the guidelines and requirements as specified by SA Health at the time of the event in May 2022. Interim guidelines and school requirements will be issued to you up to the final approved COVID Management Plan.

We hope the opportunity of “going to GIJ” will offer the added enticement for students to reengage with your music programs culminating in a celebratory event in 2022 for all to share the “spirit of Generations. “

We wish every one of you a much better Term 4.

Take care and stay safe.

Kind regards,

PETER O ROBERTS – Chairman
on behalf of the Board
